Excellent early musical by Rouben Mamoulian. Innovative use of camera movement, lighting and staging make this an aesthetically rigorous, meticulously staged masterwork. The comedy (very much influenced by Lubitsch) sparkles and makes the whole thing go down like ice cream. Also, Jeanette MacDonald was very sexy, never really paid attention to her before but she's formidable here.
