Look, I get it, cinemas are trying everything to put asses in the seats; IMAX, 3D, IMAX 3D, Ultra AVX, DBox (seats that shake and rattle along with the action), 70 varieties of Coke Zero, but Screen X is just irritating. If you don't know what that is, here's a handy description from the theater website.
ScreenX
Surround yourself with exclusive imagery enhancing the narrative of a film in select scenes with the immersive 270 degree panoramic premium experience. ScreenX will naturally fill your peripheral vision transporting you into the movie.
What this amounts to actually creates the opposite effect. You have the movie screen directly in front, so far so good. But then, and this happens intermittently, warped, out of focus projections suddenly fill the left and right walls of the cinema. It was so distracting and unpleasant for me, I can't really give an honest assessment of the film.
What I did manage to take in struck me as both overbaked and underbaked in equal measure. To put it in Great British B.O. terms; Lovely icing, the cake's a bit runny, and the filling is fine but not exactly original.
